Plans are in full swing for our annual Wedding Open Day on Sunday 26th February 2012.

Our Wedding Open Day gives couples from across the Bristol region the opportunity to visit Alveston House and experience the warmth and hospitality of the team and of it’s owner and General Manager, Julie Camm.

We have been licensed for Civil Ceremonies for over 12 years and during that time have seen hundreds of happy couples tie the knot from all over the South West of England.

Our Ceremony Suite has recently been refurbished together with a number of bedrooms throughout the hotel – all of which will be on show during the Wedding Open Day. Whether you are interested in a Civil Ceremony or Civil Partnership, a complete Wedding Package or simply an informal evening Wedding Reception we can design a personal, bespoke Wedding Package just for you.

Due to the popularity of the event we have had to limit numbers this year as we want to ensure that you will be able to see the hotel and talk to one of our Wedding Co-ordinators in peaceful surroundings. Attendance will require pre-registration via our website and will only take a couple of seconds.

There will be an aviation theme this year with lots of information about Bristol’s aviation history.  One famous occupant of Alveston House will also be remembered.  Captain Frank Barnwell built and flew the first aeroplane in Scotland in 1910 and was resident at Alveston House Hotel with his family from 1923-1938.

There will be lots to see and do and this year we will also have Chef’s delicious homemade Plum Chutney for sale.  We will be giving away free samples for you to ‘try before you buy.’

It was so wonderful to see our guests enjoying a delicious afternoon tea when they attended our latest Garden Party on 5th August.

The garden at Alveston House Hotel looked beautiful and our gardener, Kathryn, did a wonderful job of imparting her vast knowledge of plants and shrubs to our keen gardening friends.

After a cloudy start to the day, the sun came out and shone all afternoon.

Local singer, Elisa, performed a wonderful selection of jazz which created a superb, lazy summer afternoon atmosphere in the garden.

To help celebrate the Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton we invite you to enjoy an afternoon of music and traditional Cream Tea in the beautiful, secluded garden of Alveston House Hotel.  Live music will be provided by local singer-songwriter, Jonathan Darley who will be performing a mix of original songs and covers in an acoustic style.

What a pleasure it was to exhibit at the ‘World of Weddings’ Wedding Fayre in Bristol on Sunday 9th January.

As one of only two Bristol Wedding Venues in attendance, our  stand was visited by well over 100 couples eager to gather up as much information as possible to enable them to plan their special day. 

We took along our brand new Wedding Brochures - literally hot of the press – they were delivered from the printers on Friday night!  We are really excited about our fantastic inclusive packages and found that this is exactly what couples are wanting - simple and straight forward – all their needs catered for in one stress free package!

We have been a popular Wedding Venue for many years and have an enviable reputation for having a team of staff that genuinely enjoy what we do.  This is reflected in the many thank you letters and testimonials that we receive.

At Alveston we firmly believe that your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life – we are just so pleased to be involved in making it one of the most fabulous too!

The Tourism Excellence Awards 2010/2011 took place on Monday 15 November in Torquay.

Julie Camm, owner and General Manager, Lisa Hindson, Deputy General Manager, Head Chef Ben Halliday and myself took ourselves off to Torquay to represent the Hotel at this most presigious of awards ceremonies.

The atmosphere was electric as we waited for the announcement of the ‘Best Small Hotel of the Year’…

We are very pleased to announce that, whilst we did not receive a Gold or Siver award, we did remain as one of the top 5 small hotels in the whole of the South West region.  This is something that we are extremely proud of and would like to thank all of our guests and supporters for their good luck messages and best wishes.

Just 2 weeks to go before we host the first Business Inspired  ‘Women’s Conference’  here at Alveston House Hotel.

On Thursday 18th November between 10.00am and 4.00pm the hotel will welcome business women from all over the Bristol and South Gloucestershire area.  They will have the opportunity to meet like minded female entrepreneurs and be inspired by top motivational keynote speakers.

A number of outstanding local business women will be presenting to the delegates - covering all things from marketing to mission statements, social networking to self image.

This week we were delighted to welcome Janice Malschuk and Alison Wilmot from Business Inspired to the hotel to finalise arrangements.

This really promises to be a conference not to be missed and we are excited and thrilled to be supporting this fantastic event.

We are thrilled and excited to have been short-listed in the prestigious South West Tourism Excellence Awards.

The Excellence Awards celebrate ‘the best in the South West’ and aim to promote and reward the very best in the tourism industry.

We are 1 of 5 finalists in the category ‘Small Hotel of the Year’ and will join a further 42 businesses from the South West at a glittering awards ceremony on 15 November 2010.

This year’s awards event will be presented by journalist and broadcaster Declan Curry, best known for presenting the business on BBC Breakfast and hosting BBC’s Working Lunch.

The selection process included detailed entry forms and mystery visits – over 300 entries were received so we are extremely proud of our acheivement so far. Businesses needed to show a deep commitment to sustainability, recycling and the enviroment as well as excellent customer service.

Wish us luck for the 15th…we’ll keep you posted!

We are delighted to be involved with raising money for the NSPCC by hosting a networking breakfast on Monday 6 September 2010.

The NSPCC’s Bristol Business Board, a group of local businesses, are working together to help raise £400,000 in support of the charity’s national helplines – ChildLine and the NSPCC Helpline.  The event is being held to raise awareness among local businesses for the charity’s Child’s Voice appeal and the need for funding to ensure that every child’s cry for help is answered.

The networking breakfast will also see the official launch of the region’s ‘1600 Club’ which will encourage local businesses to show their support for the NSPCC by pledging to raise £1600 to help end cruelty to children over the coming year.  All businesses that take part and reach the £1600 target will be invited to an evening reception hosted by Dragon’s Den investor, successful entrepreneur and Chair of the NSPCC’s South West Child’s Voice Appeal, Deborah Meaden.

We will be sponsoring the Networking Breakfast and providing a light breakfast of bacon rolls and tea and coffee.  Ticket are priced at £10.00 and will be available on a strictly first come, first served basis.
